Brazil welcomed six Estonian food-sector companies from 5 to 9 October to meet potential partners, as Estonian officials seek the approvals needed to open the market to fish and dairy products.

The delegation comprises food-technology research organisation AS TFTAK, dairy producer and distributor Estover OÜ, gin maker Junimperium Distillery OÜ, fishing company Reyktal AS, dairy manufacturer Valio Eesti AS and fermentation-based fats and oils developer ÄIO Tech OÜ, according to the Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture.

Business meetings in Brazil

Minister of Regional Affairs and Agriculture Hendrik Johannes Terras is accompanying the companies on a visit organised with the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Estonia’s embassy in Brazil. The programme includes meetings with Brazilian business partners and food- and agriculture-sector organisations, as well as visits to companies and production sites. The purpose is to make commercial contacts and learn how the local market operates.

“The state’s task is to remove trade barriers and bring entrepreneurs together with potential partners so that business relationships can emerge,” Terras said in the ministry’s announcement.

Brazil is Mercosur’s – South American economic and political trade bloc – largest economy. The EU and Mercosur signed a partnership agreement and a separate interim trade agreement in January 2026. The interim agreement has applied provisionally since 1 May, while the wider partnership agreement awaits full ratification.

The interim trade rules began phased tariff cuts for most EU agri-food exports, including spirits, and address technical barriers such as labelling.

Estonia’s trade with Brazil

Brazil was Estonia’s 51st-largest destination for goods exports in 2025. According to Statistics Estonia, Estonia exported €26.6M of goods to Brazil and imported €27.4M from Brazil that year.

Fish and dairy exports still need approvals

Trade terms alone do not resolve the technical requirements for every product. Food and Agriculture Board director-general Raimo Heinam is joining the visit to discuss access for Estonian products of animal origin, particularly fish and dairy, with Brazilian authorities. The two sides aim to advance the necessary approvals and veterinary requirements and build direct links between the responsible agencies.

Approval talks are particularly relevant to companies such as Reyktal, whose fleet specialises in cold-water shrimp fishing, and to the dairy businesses Estover and Valio Eesti. ÄIO and TFTAK bring food-technology expertise to the meetings, while Junimperium makes Estonian spirits.
