Estonian manufacturer ElectroAir builds ground support equipment for aviation — static, hybrid and diesel ground power units, pit systems, frequency converters and complete airport power infrastructure — and its equipment is in use in more than 100 countries.
ElectroAir was founded in Tallinn in 2006 and employs 120 to 150 people depending on the season and project load. It sells to airports, airlines, maintenance and repair organisations, business aviation and military operators, and works to aviation and military standards rather than to general industrial ones.
Airports run on equipment that was never designed to work together
Ground power at an airport is usually assembled over years, from equipment bought from different vendors at different times. The result is a patchwork: units that do not communicate with the monitoring system, spare parts from suppliers that have moved on, and costs that appear in maintenance budgets rather than in the original purchase.
The operating conditions make it worse. Ground power units sit outdoors in arctic cold, tropical humidity, desert heat and military environments, and they are expected to work on the first attempt when an aircraft is waiting.
One contract from design to commissioning
ElectroAir answers that with a full-lifecycle model. The company handles engineering, CAD design, electrical calculations, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, operator training and long-term service, so an airport deals with one supplier responsible for the whole system rather than integrating several.
Its portfolio is designed as an ecosystem instead of a list of products: ground power units, pit systems, frequency converters, monitoring, diagnostics and cable handling in one system that interoperates, integrates into the airport’s energy network and is delivered to a predictable schedule. The units also let airports cut auxiliary power unit running, which lowers fuel burn and emissions at the stand.
From a small workshop to aviation supply
The company has grown from a small Tallinn workshop to a supplier of more than 600 customers, with equipment in service supporting civil, military and business aviation worldwide. Long product lifecycles and spare parts availability of 15+ years matter in aviation procurement, where a unit is expected to stay in service long after the model is superseded. In 2023 the company was named Factory of the Year in Estonia.
“ElectroAir was born from a simple idea that great engineering and the Estonian School of Development offer unique advantages over traditional Western and fast-scaling Chinese approaches.”
Aleksei Snitsarenko, CEO at ElectroAir
Estonia’s electronics sector exports a large share of its output, and aviation power systems are one of the segments where Estonian manufacturers compete on certification and reliability rather than on price.
