Estonian startup eAgronom becomes one of the first in Europe to issue Verra-certified carbon credits, enabling Baltic and Polish farmers to earn income from sustainable farming practices.
In Estonia, even agriculture is getting a digital upgrade through startups. eAgronom, a Tallinn-based agricultural ClimateTech company founded in 2016, helps farmers adopt sustainable practices through digital tools that make regenerative agriculture both practical and profitable. Now it has opened a new tool, says company in a press-release: official registration with Verra, the world’s largest carbon standards body, allowing it to issue its first carbon credits in the Baltics and Poland.
“Every company produces waste, and CO₂ is no exception. What matters is how we handle it—and soil offers a unique solution.”
Robin Saluoks, eAgronom founder and CEO
This makes eAgronom among the first in Europe to enable farmers in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland to earn additional income by improving their soil health and selling the resulting carbon credits.
Regional carbon project achieves Verra certification
The company’s Central and Eastern European project has been registered under Verra’s VM0042 methodology — one of the most rigorous approaches for creating carbon credits. The integration is built on years of collaboration between eAgronom and farmers implementing key agricultural changes: cover crop cultivation, reduced tillage, precision fertilization, and integrated pest management planning.
These practices reduce greenhouse gas emissions while increasing carbon sequestration in soil and improving overall soil health — soil being Earth’s second-largest natural carbon sink after oceans.
“Every company produces waste, and CO₂ is no exception. What matters is how we handle it—and soil offers a unique solution,” said eAgronom founder and CEO Robin Saluoks. “Plants and living systems capture carbon dioxide from the air and store it in the soil, while simultaneously improving soil quality, water systems, and ecosystems.”
eAgronom expands climate‑smart farming to 300,000 new hectares
Over 300,000 hectares of farmland have already been integrated into the newly registered project, bringing the total to more than 2.5 million hectares on eAgronom’s platform. Working with partners across Europe and Africa, eAgronom stores over 1 million tons of CO₂ annually — equivalent to removing approximately 200,000 cars from European roads.
“For farmers, it’s increasingly important not just to grow their business, but to do so in a way that preserves and protects our environment. That’s exactly what eAgronom’s carbon program enables.”
Kristjan Anderson, eAgronom’s Estonia market lead
The company currently has three Verra carbon projects in Europe, with two additional projects undergoing registration.
“For farmers, it’s increasingly important not just to grow their business, but to do so in a way that preserves and protects our environment. That’s exactly what eAgronom’s carbon program enables,” said Kristjan Anderson, eAgronom’s Estonia market lead.
