Overview: In 2014 Estonia was the first country in the world to launch e-Residency, a government issued digital ID card which enables digital signature as well as online formation and running of companies.

To-date Estonia has 101,000 e-Residents from 170+ countries, including over 6,000 German entrepreneurs, freelancers and startup founders who have joined the programme. Last year, e-Residency broke the world record with fastest company formation in 15 minutes and 33 seconds.

e-Residency is particularly relevant for location independent entrepreneurs, companies with international focus and setups and e-commerce businesses. We have a strong community both amongst EU nationals as well as non-EU businesses who wish to sell and grow their EU business. E-Residency has also helped diversify Estonia’s startup ecosystem with every 3rd Estonian startup having at least one e-resident founder.
