Estonian technology company, the innovator of autonomous store technology solutions Grab2Go and retail chain Selver AS, with over 70 stores, signed a letter of intent (LOI) on 8 August for a joint pilot project. The aim of the collaboration is to test the market readiness of Grab2Go’s innovative autonomous store technology.
The parties agreed in the letter of intent that the pilot project will utilise Grab2Go’s autonomous store technology, which will be located in front of the Öpiku buildings in the Ülemiste campus in Tallinn. The opening date of the autonomous store will be determined through further collaboration.
Gra2Go´s technology transforms the operations of convenience stores and pharmacies. At the core of the company solution is the reduction of daily business costs, focusing on labour shortages, high operational expenses, and inefficient logistics. The company also addresses food waste reduction, rental cost minimisation, real-time data usage, and the implementation of sustainable methods, such as CO2 neutrality.
“Collaborating with Selver enables us to showcase our technology’s capabilities in a real-world environment. We are confident that this pilot will demonstrate the effectiveness and market suitability of autonomous retail solutions,” added Grab2Go CEO Mart Viilipus.
Grab2Go tests its autonomous store technology in the community of 17 000 people
Grab2Go’s technology enables continuous operation 24/7, meaning the autonomous store will be open around the clock. The product range of the store will be confirmed as the pilot project progresses.
“We are excited to partner with Grab2Go to implement this cutting-edge solution. The pilot project allows us to test the format of an autonomously operated store that is open 24/7 and see the potential of this solution in the Estonian market. Through this project, we will gain invaluable insights and opportunities for the future,” said Selver’s CEO Kristi Lomp.
“Grab2Go is the first retail company to pilot its service in the Test City concept within the campus,” said Ursel Velve, CEO of Mainor Ülemiste and Innovation Director of Ülemiste City, the largest business district in the Baltic States. She noted that the collaboration is undoubtedly exciting for all parties involved, as the 17,000-strong innovation-minded community of the campus provides an excellent test group for the service.
“The goal of the Ülemiste City developers is to create a 24/7 functioning urban space within a 5-minute radius, where services are conveniently accessible. An autonomous store is an excellent service for testing and fully supports the strategic goals of the campus. Given the broad target group for the service and the store’s location at the heart of the campus, it will allow us to gather quality data and draw conclusions that will help Grab2Go develop the service and hopefully scale it soon,” added Ursel Velve.
