HANZA Mechanics Tartu combines CNC machining, sheet-metal fabrication, certified welding and electromechanical assembly for energy, medical and industrial machinery customers that want one supplier instead of several.
HANZA Mechanics Tartu is part of the international HANZA Group and has operated in Estonia since 2008. The Tartu plant employs more than 500 people and handles high-mix, low-volume production: many part numbers, small batches, tight tolerances and schedules that leave little room for a late delivery.
Why buyers consolidate machining and assembly
Global manufacturers increasingly need European suppliers that can hold tight tolerances, keep predictable schedules and scale when demand moves. The usual arrangement works against that. Machining sits with one vendor, sheet-metal work with a second, surface treatment with a third and assembly somewhere else, and every handover adds transport, a new quality check and a new opportunity for something to go missing.
Consolidating those steps is not simply a purchasing preference. It shortens lead times, removes the arguments about which supplier caused a defect, and gives the customer one point of engineering contact when a design has to change.
One factory, one value chain
HANZA Mechanics Tartu covers the chain inside one facility: CNC milling and turning, sheet-metal cutting and bending, certified welding, surface treatments, cable harnesses and electromechanical assembly. ISO-certified quality systems, including ISO 13485 for medical devices, sit across the process, and the group’s manufacturing-cluster model allows work to be balanced across plants when capacity or a specific process demands it.
The plant also takes part in engineering work on manufacturability, which is where much of the cost of a mechanical system is decided. Customers bring a design; the factory comes back with a way to build it that keeps tolerances and total cost in the same conversation.
Where the Tartu output ends up
Products manufactured in Tartu run in industrial automation equipment, medical devices and high-reliability energy systems across Europe and beyond. HANZA’s Estonian footprint has been growing: the group agreed to acquire Fortaco units to expand its contract manufacturing capacity.
“Manufacturing made easy — that’s our vision and our promise. At HANZA Mechanics Tartu, we combine integrated processes, dependable quality, and a dedicated team to help customers scale faster and with confidence.”
Liivar Kongi, HANZA Cluster Baltics President
Estonia’s machinery and metalworking sector rests on plants of this kind, where precision mechanics and systems assembly are kept in the same building as the quality documentation that European customers audit.
