Metrosert and EKTL join forces to powerfully boost Estonian defence industry

The leaders of Metrosert and the Estonian Defence and Aerospace Industry Association (EKTL) stated at a meeting in August 2024 that completing Metroserd’s new indoor and outdoor laboratories will significantly enhance the defence sector’s technological development.

The management of AS Metrosert attended the meeting, headed by CEO Aigar Vaiguja and the head of the Estonian Defence and Aerospace Industry Association (EKTL), Kalev Koidumäe. The leaders discussed how Metrosert can support the industry with its activities.

“Metrosert provides essential services to EKTL member companies, from product development to certification, which ultimately helps our companies’ products reach foreign markets better,” emphasised Kalev Koidumäe, CEO of the Estonian Defence and Aerospace Industry Association.

“The cooperation between Metrosert and EKTL can significantly boost the development of the Estonian defence and aerospace industry, contributing to innovation and quality improvement in the sector. Of course, Metrosert also has a role to play in the industrialisation of manufacturing in the field and contributing to innovation and quality improvement in the sector,” commented Aigar Vaigu, CEO of Metrosert.

Rainer Kivimäe, the Metrosert Applied Research Center’s head of drone technology unit, introduced the new planned research areas to EKTL, which include unmanned aerial systems, communication and navigation, and flight physics. He also highlighted the centre’s extensive new laboratory services, including indoor and outdoor facilities.

New laboratories will be in defence companies´ service from 2025

These laboratories will be available to customers from the fourth quarter of 2025. They will offer testing for EMC, acoustics, vibration, dust, climate, and various environmental factors, as well as large-scale testing and real-world validation of drones.

AS Metrosert is an accredited metrology service provider. Metrosert’s main activities include calibration and measurement services, management system certification, analysis of precious metals and applied research and development.

Metrosert has the expertise to develop processes and methodologies that comply with various international standards. Both sides agreed that this could assist the industry in creating more competitive products and services internationally.

In addition, Metrosert can support the Estonian defence and aerospace industry by providing high-level measurement and certification services, and through R&D cooperation in the field of metrology and applied research.

Metrosert’s Applied Research Centre focuses on future technologies such as drone technologies, autonomous vehicles, health data, biorefining and hydrogen technologies.
