Nortal industrial IoT acquisition deepens its smart factory push in Germany, bringing in the team, client relationships and industrial know-how behind Dresden-based iSAX’s consulting business.
Estonian technology company Nortal has acquired the industrial IoT consulting business of iSAX GmbH & Co. KG, a move that gives it a stronger position in Germany’s industrial digitalisation market and expands its reach across manufacturing clients in Europe, says the official press-release.
Nortal industrial IoT acquisition adds an experienced DACH team
Based in Dresden, iSAX has spent more than 25 years helping manufacturers across the DACH region improve competitiveness through digital transformation. Under the deal, Nortal is taking over iSAX’s industrial IoT team together with its customer relationships, delivery methods and internally developed tools.
The transaction also makes Nortal the preferred implementation partner for weasl, an AI-based industrial process digitalisation platform developed by Connected Worker Intelligence, a company that grew out of iSAX. The platform is designed to digitalise production processes, quality control, automated documentation and real-time data collection.
Germany becomes a deeper industrial foothold
For Nortal, the acquisition is less about scale for its own sake than about entering a strategically important part of the German economy. Andre Krull, Nortal’s Head of Development and Investments, said the iSAX team and the partnership around weasl should help the company expand its industrial digitalisation work in Germany, broaden its reach across European manufacturing clients and support further growth into the Middle East.
That move fits naturally with Nortal’s broader footprint in Germany, where the company has already been building its presence from Berlin and Dresden and working on digitalisation projects across industry and the public sector. The iSAX deal gives Nortal a more direct operational foothold in the manufacturing side of that market.
A familiar acquisition pattern for Nortal
The deal also follows a recent pattern in Nortal’s international growth. Earlier, the company expanded its defence and cyber capabilities through the acquisition of UK cybersecurity consultancy 3DOT Solutions. In this case, the focus is not cyber but industrial IoT, with Nortal again adding a specialist team, established customer ties and market-specific expertise.
For a broader Estonian export push, it’s yet another sign of growing sophistication — from competing on labor price, local companies are now pushing into established European markets through acquisitions, building longer-term positions inside Europe’s industrial value chain. In Nortal’s case, that now means pairing its existing German presence with a more specialised role in factory and production digitalisation.
