President Karis to make state visit to Kazakhstan accompanied by 40-member business delegation

On the invitation of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Estonian head of state Alar Karis will be visiting Kazakhstan from 17-19 November in hopes of boosting cooperation between the two countries in the economic, educational and digital spheres. President Karis will be accompanied by his spouse Sirje Karis and a 40-member business delegation.

The aim of the visit is to highlight the dynamic and very effective bilateral relations between Estonia and Kazakhstan, to draw attention to Kazakhstan as a partner to the European Union and and to encourage cooperation that strengthens the rules-based international order founded on international law. With the visit, Estonia, as an EU Member State, will confirm its interest and presence in a region of growing significance to international cooperation and security.

President Karis will also seek to bolster economic relations and will discuss ways to strengthen ties in education and research so as to support university cooperation and exchange of knowledge, touching on issues related to AI and sustainable development.

Accompanying the head of state to Kazakhstan will be members of parliament and the government, a 40-member delegation of business leaders, and representatives of Universities Estonia, including several rectors. A number of cultural events will be taking place as part of the visit, including concerts and exhibitions showcasing Estonian culture.

Former Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev paid a state visit to Estonia in 2011.
