Estonia’s Stargate Hydrogen has signed a cooperation agreement with Hydrogenera to pursue industrial hydrogen projects across Europe.
The deal gives Estonia’s hydrogen technology sector a wider route into large industrial projects by pairing Stargate’s electrolyser stack technology with Hydrogenera’s system engineering and delivery capabilities. The companies announced the agreement in an official press release.
Framework for industrial hydrogen cooperation
The agreement sets up project-based cooperation between the two companies while both continue to operate independently. According to the release, the partnership will focus on selected opportunities tied to alkaline electrolysis, hydrogen systems, and industrial project delivery across Europe.
That matters because industrial hydrogen projects are moving beyond early pilots and into more demanding delivery phases, where customers need equipment suppliers, integrators, and engineering partners that can work together on real operating conditions. In this case, the companies are building a framework that can later be used for individual orders, services, and project work as opportunities emerge.
The companies also said the arrangement is not exclusive. Each side will keep developing its own products, partnerships, and commercial pipeline, while deciding separately where joint work makes technical and commercial sense. That keeps the cooperation practical and project-led, which is often important in industrial hydrogen work where delivery structures can differ from one market or customer to another.
Stargate brings stack technology to larger hydrogen systems
For the Estonian side, the logic of the agreement is clear. Stargate Hydrogen develops next-generation alkaline electrolyser stacks for industrial green hydrogen production, while Hydrogenera covers a broader delivery chain that includes system design, balance-of-plant engineering, integration, manufacturing, and deployment.
The official release says the two companies see the strongest fit in projects where those capabilities are technically and commercially complementary. Potential applications named in the release include industrial hydrogen systems, demonstration projects, consortium work, and other hydrogen-sector initiatives. Stargate also points to its precious-metal-free alkaline technology as a way to lower production costs and strengthen Europe’s hydrogen supply chain in hard-to-abate industries such as refining, ammonia, methanol, e-methane, and steel.
Commercial momentum continues for Stargate
The partnership adds another step in Stargate’s broader commercial scale-up. The company recently opened a new factory in Tallinn for alkaline electrolysis stacks and systems, giving it added manufacturing capacity as industrial demand builds.
That scale-up has also been supported by a growing international project footprint. Stargate has been building a stronger Nordic presence as it tests and deploys its technology for larger projects, and the Hydrogenera agreement fits the same trajectory: moving Estonian hydrogen know-how deeper into practical cross-border delivery work.
Large hydrogen customers rarely buy stack technology on its own; they usually need integrated systems, engineering support, commissioning, and long-term project execution. A partnership like this can therefore help an Estonian technology company enter larger European delivery chains without having to cover every part of the project scope alone.
