Estonian engineering and manufacturing company Tech Group designs, prototypes and produces complex hardware for industrial technology, electronics, semiconductor, automotive, medical and laboratory customers.
Tech Group was founded in Tallinn in 2003 and now employs more than 130 people across mechanical, electrical and software engineering, industrial design and production. The company’s model is unusual in the region: engineering and manufacturing sit under one roof, so a product moves from concept to serial production without changing hands. Its main export markets are the Nordics, DACH and Western Europe.
The gap between a working prototype and a product you can build
Hardware development is usually split between a design studio and a contract manufacturer, and the handover between them is where projects lose time. A design that performs in the lab turns out to be expensive or slow to manufacture at volume, which means redesigns, delayed launches and production errors that only appear after tooling has been paid for.
The harder problem comes after the first unit. Going from a prototype to a reliable product produced in series requires testing, supply chain work and quality systems that most design partners do not carry.
How Tech Group keeps engineering and production in one building
Tech Group’s answer is to cover the whole lifecycle in one organisation. Multidisciplinary teams handle mechanical, electrical and software engineering, industrial design, testing, supply chain management and quality assurance, and then build the product. Because the engineers who designed a part work alongside the people who manufacture it, manufacturability problems surface during development rather than after production starts.
The practical effect is shorter development cycles and less technical risk carried by the customer, who deals with one partner instead of coordinating a design house, a toolmaker and an assembly plant.
Machines running in factories across Europe
The approach has produced thousands of high-performance machines used across Europe and beyond, in industrial automation, robotics, electronics and photonics. The range of work runs from LiDAR assembly and industrial X-ray systems to 3D CT and photonic packaging, all applications where a machine that drifts out of specification is not usable.
Tech Group’s manufacturing capability has also drawn attention at home: the company was named Estonia’s Company of the Year 2025 for bringing Estonian engineering into factories abroad.
“We believe that smart machines and automation lead to a safer and more meaningful life, while helping companies achieve exceptional results.”
Martin Sutrop, CEO at Tech Group
Estonia’s machinery and metalworking sector is built on companies that combine engineering with their own production, which is why foreign manufacturers use Estonian partners for equipment rather than only for components.
