Vok Bikes partners with Renault Group to increase cargo bike production capacity tenfold

Estonian electric cargo bike manufacturer Vok Bikes and Renault Group are entering into a strategic partnership to bring Vok’s latest generation of four-wheeled e-cargo vehicles into mass production. Production of Vok´s bikes is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of next year at the Renault Refactory in Flins, France.

The new production line near Paris, France, enables Vok Bikes to scale production closer to key Western European markets, including the UK, France, and the Benelux region. This will reduce lead times, lower transport emissions, and speed up deployment for rapidly growing delivery fleets across London, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Rome, and other major urban centres. This is a significant step in Vok Bikes’ Western European expansion, which will increase production capacity tenfold.

A new standard in urban delivery vehicles

Vok Bikes has created a new vehicle category where modified consumer e-bikes previously dominated. Built from the ground up for commercial use, Vok’s automotive-grade e-cargo vehicles offer a superior riding experience, stability, durability, and large cargo space. They are an alternative to vans for large courier and logistics firms, as well as an ever-widening range of small businesses, including bakeries, cleaning services, gardeners, handymen, hotels, and campuses.

The mounting business challenge of urban logistics in Europe

With 75% of Europeans living in cities and more than 360 low-emission zones already established, the cost of urban logistics is rising fast. What was once an environmental issue has become a direct business challenge: congestion, delays, and increasing vehicle charges are eroding margins for retailers, couriers, and service providers.

In July 2025 Vok Bikes, the Estonian company behind a new generation of four-wheeled electric cargo bikes, raised € 5,1M (6M USD)  to further expand across Europe and accelerate the shift away from vans in city centres.

London is now Europe’s most congested city, with analysis showing that in 2024, drivers lost 101 hours in traffic and delays cost businesses £3.85 billion. From 2026, even electric vans will be subject to the congestion charge. Paris faces similar pressures, with city vans contributing disproportionately to local air pollution and facing steadily tightening access restrictions.

Across Europe, these factors are accelerating the shift from traditional vans toward smaller, more agile electric vehicles that move faster and avoid rising fees. The market is responding: according to Future Market Insights, the European electric cargo bike market is set to more than triple by 2035. Commercial cargo bikes are faster to deploy, licence-free in many cases, able to use cycling infrastructure to bypass gridlock, and far cheaper to operate than vans  – making them a central pillar of Europe’s fleet electrification strategies.

Vok Bikes is supporting transition in 14 countries

“We’re seeing a fundamental shift,” says Vittorio Rizzato, Managing Director of Wings Bike, Vok’s distributor in Italy. “In cities like Milan and Rome, commercial operators can no longer rely on vans alone. Companies are looking for vehicles that can move faster, avoid access fees, fines, and time restrictions, and keep operating costs predictable — and cargo bikes are becoming essential to that strategy.”

Vok Bikes is already supporting this transition in 14 countries through a growing network of 50+ local resellers, including the Urban Mobility Group in Benelux, Zoomo in France, Germany, and Spain, and the most recent addition, Wings Bike in Italy, which reports rapidly growing demand in both the Milan and Rome markets.

The new manufacturing alliance is backed by growing demand from Vok Bikes’ clients, including Veolia, Wolt, McDonald’s, and the City of London.
