Estonian startups start small, but go global. Last week, Tallinn-founded solar roofing company Roofit.Solar has appointed Martin Paju as its Chief Operations Officer, marking a strategic decision as the company accelerates its international growth.

The appointment comes shortly after Roofit.Solar launched in the US market, bringing its total footprint to 30 countries.

Paju joins from Comodule, an IoT provider for e-bikes, where he served as COO. Before that, he spent four years at Skeleton Technologies, the energy storage company, working on technical project delivery. His engineering background and experience scaling tech startups made him a natural fit for Roofit’s next chapter, the company says in the official press-release.

This is the first time in several years that Roofit has had a COO. Paju will work alongside CEO Andres Anijalg, CTO Iryna Rußbüldt, and CGO Greg Grace to streamline operations, develop supply chains, and expand the company’s partnership network.

“My last two companies were both in the field of emissions reduction through technology, so it’s important to me both professionally and personally to be once again working in a sector which is driving a positive impact on the planet. This motivates me far more than simply generating profit.”

A decade of steady growth in the solar space

Founded in Estonia in 2016, Roofit has installed more than 2500 solar roofs globally and built an international network of installation and distribution partners. The company specialises in building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), combining metal roofing with solar panels in a design-forward approach that works for both new construction and heritage buildings.

The company recently earned UL certification, opening the door to the US market. Last year, Sifted recognised Roofit as one of Europe’s 250 fastest-growing startups. Earlier in 2024, the publication named it the fastest-growing solar energy startup in Eastern Europe and the Baltics.

“My last two companies were both in the field of emissions reduction through technology, so it’s important to me both professionally and personally to be once again working in a sector which is driving a positive impact on the planet,” Paju said. “This motivates me far more than simply generating profit.”

As Roofit builds out supply chain, installation, and distribution partnerships across key markets, Paju will oversee global operations to ensure consistency and efficiency. According to CGO Greg Grace, his experience in commercial partnerships, team leadership, and growth strategy will be crucial as the company moves into its next scaling phase.
