This week, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed a procurement agreement with the IT company Trinidad Wiseman to develop a portal for exporting companies that would facilitate quick information exchange between entrepreneurs and the state.
Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said the state has set the ambitious goal of doubling Estonia’s exports over the next decade. “The greater the number of Estonian companies exporting their products and services to various countries, the better off we are as a country and nation. This is why we need to make to state support system aimed at companies more efficient through digital solutions, and do our utmost to ensure that the last quarter’s growth trend continues,” Tsahkna said.
“There has been a lot of talk recently about how companies are being burdened with new information requests. The export portal will alleviate this problem – it is a practical tool that helps to reduce red tape for both exporting companies as well as the state, and leaves more time for focusing on actual business activities.”
Eva-Kristiina Ponomarjov, Head of the EIS’s Exports Department
Once completed, the export portal will allow every company to fill in their profile with interests in target countries and the value proposition of their products or services, and based on that information, the state will proactively provide tailor-made services that contribute to exports – this can mean visits, business missions, fairs, training programmes, seminars, sales leads, information materials on specific markets, or other relevant options.
The new portal saves companies time
The foreign minister said that the state services offered to companies exporting products or services were currently fragmented between various agencies and systems. For example, different services are provided by the Estonian Business and Innovation Agency (EIS) and the network of embassies and honorary consuls of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. All export measures created by the European Commission are also open to Estonian companies.
“It is very important for us that the future export portal meets the actual needs of companies and contributes to their growth.”
Ander Tenno, CEO of Trinidad Wiseman
“Our aim is to use EU funding to create a new system that provides a company with a tailor-made overview of available services and business opportunities, and saves time because there is no need to re-enter information repeatedly for different parties,” the foreign minister emphasised, adding that the solution would help the state to direct its resources more efficiently, and increase the impact and effectiveness of business diplomacy.
“There has been a lot of talk recently about how companies are being burdened with new information requests. The export portal will alleviate this problem – it is a practical tool that helps to reduce red tape for both exporting companies as well as the state, and leaves more time for focusing on actual business activities. The company has to enter its data only once and subsequently, the state can use the data to provide export services that are best suited for the company,” Eva-Kristiina Ponomarjov, Head of the EIS’s Exports Department, said.
The export portal will contribute to companies growth
The development includes representatives of exporting companies and the specific functionality of the portal will be designed in line with the needs of companies. “It is very important for us that the future export portal meets the actual needs of companies and contributes to their growth. User-centred design and development, and close cooperation with companies help us to ensure that the portal will become a practical and efficient aid to all parties involved in exports,” Trinidad Wiseman’s CEO Ander Tenno said.
The maximum volume of the development project’s framework agreement is €3 million and it is fully funded from the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility Next Generation EU. The portal will be open to companies in the first quarter of 2026.
GOOD TO KNOW
- The export portal is part of e-services aimed at companies, and bringing these services together in the unified section for companies at the Eesti.ee digital gateway is coordinated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications.
- Entrepreneurs can already use Eesti.ee to learn about state subsidies and apply for them, and issue authorisations for their staff and give them permissions to access state information systems.
- Soon the services for entrepreneurs will be expanded even more, and will include an overview of fixed-term obligations to the state, and it becomes more convenient to access it through the m-state’s mobile application.
